When confronted with a problem, you usually want to look at the system logs to try to piece together what happened so that you can work on a solution. Linux has a built-in logging facility that provides a way for each application to write a log message that will live on disk or on another system. By piecing together your logs, you can start to understand your problems and find issues that have yet to become user complaints.
