802.1X A data link layer authentication technology that is used to connect hosts to a LAN or WLAN.

acceptable use policy (AUP) A policy that defines the rules that restrict how a computer, network, or other system may be used.

access control The selective restriction of access to a place or resource.

access control list (ACL) A series of commands or rules that are applied to a router or firewall to control the flow of traffic. Also known as an access list.

access control model A methodology by which admission to physical areas and computer systems is managed and organized.
