As we saw in Chapter 8, “Software Architecture and Emerging Technologies,” shared ledgers can be implemented as public blockchains, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum; private blockchains, such as Quorum; public distributed ledgers, such as Corda Network or Alastria; and private distributed ledgers, such as Corda R3. Private blockchains and distributed ledger technologies are usually operated by a consortium of parties with similar goals, such as banks, that want to improve their trade financing processes and decrease their risks.1 Table B.1 compares the capabilities of three common implementations from an architecture perspective.
