9.1 Introduction

In 1985, Victor Miller (IBM) and Neil Koblitz (University of Washington) invented elliptic curve ­cryptography (ECC), which comes under public-key cryptosystem. At the time of its invention, the ECC algorithm provided higher potential security than other cryptographic algorithms. However, the ECC also had a limitation that it required an enormous amount of execution time.
