This chapter concerns new modeling, analysis, and design challenges and opportunities in energy cyber-physical systems (CPS), with the main emphasis being on the role of smart electric grids in enabling performance of broader energy systems. The chapter briefly summarizes today’s operations and contrasts them with what might become possible given rapidly changing technology and needs for energy.
