So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Even in a crowded field, Joseph Popp was a very peculiar hacker. Having studied biology at Harvard, he studied hamadryas baboons in Africa for 15 years and opened a butterfly sanctuary in New York. In 2000 he self-published a book called Popular Evolution which insisted that humanity’s only reason for existing was ‘maximizing reproductive success’.
All this from a man who had once taken to wearing a cardboard box on his head while awaiting trial in the UK for his hacking exploits in 1989.
