To ensure a platform’s maintainability and usefulness, we should consider the way it will be started as well as the processes of removing obsolete elements. Good practice is to start small and build up, and to remove elements in a controlled fashion, not disrupting operations of platform users. This appendix presents the concepts of the thinnest viable platform (which, as its name suggests, is a method for starting small) and steps for unobtrusive removal of deprecated interfaces.
