I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Preface
At OOPSLA[1] 2000 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I asked Mike Hendrickson of Addison-Wesley what types of books he thought readers wanted. I was interested to hear that he felt that there is still a market for books to help readers understand design patterns. I suggested the idea of a Java workbook that would give readers a chance to expand and to exercise their understanding of patterns. This sounded good to Mike, and he introduced me to Paul Becker, who supports Addison-Wesley's Software Patterns series. Paul's immediate response was that such a book “should have been written five years ago.” I would like to thank Mike and Paul for their initial encouragement, which inspired me to take on this task.
