Appendix B. The Gerber File Format
EAGLE’s final goal is to produce a set of Gerber and Excellon files that fully describe the desired circuit. When these files are generated, they can be sent to a fabrication facility that will construct the board.
Gerber files are popular throughout circuit design, but most designers don’t read them directly. Instead, they examine the circuit using a Gerber viewer. Chapter 7, “Generating and Submitting Output Files,” explains how EAGLE’s CAM processor generates Gerber files and how the gerbv application makes it possible to visualize the board design.
