Unless you construct circuit boards yourself, you’ll need to convert EAGLE’s board design into files that a fabrication facility can understand. The most common file format for PCB designs is the RS-274X format, also called the Gerber format. Drill information is stored separately in files formatted using the Excellon format.
To generate fabrication files, EAGLE provides a separate tool called the CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) Processor. The goal of this chapter is to explain how to configure the processor and use it to generate Gerber and Excellon files. Later, I’ll explain how to view the Gerber files using a free tool called gerbv.
