Appendix 3A: Choosing a Type of Narrative Analysis

There are four basic models of narrative analysis (Riessman, 2005). The first is thematic analysis and includes a focus on the content of the narrative, or what the narrator “told” in the story. This approach is often useful to examine the variation between narratives among a group of narratives about the same topic.
