Detail Design
The goal of the detail design phase is to use the analysis and conceptual model information to create actual windows and dialogs for the interface. During this phase, you create a prototype using storyboards, sketches, and online windows and dialogs. During this phase, you apply standards and guidelines. You also use heuristic reviews and walkthroughs with users and key stakeholders to get feedback and make changes to the interface. The steps and sub-steps and the necessary tools and techniques are highlighted in Table 11.4. The deliverable is the design document.
Determine Scope for Detail Design
The first step in detail design is to decide which part or parts of the interface you are going to work on. If the system you are designing is large, you may want to limit the scope of phase four to a piece of the system. Repeat phase four as needed until the entire interface is designed.
Choose the scenarios, window flow diagrams, and dialogs that match the part you want to work on for this pass through phase four and make a list of user scenarios. This is where you select the breadth of the first detail design iteration.
