Extending Your Desktop Reader

Of the 30 or so desktop viewers to appear, most are closed source and either shareware or try-then-buy packages. For our pedagogic purposes, therefore, they aren’t much good. (As products in their own right, of course, things may be a different. I am not making any comment as to the value of commercial packages, apart from the fact that I can’t show you their code and explain how it works. For commercial success, this is irrelevant, but for this book it is quite key.)

For our purposes, therefore, one relative newcomer gives plenty of scope. So, for the rest of this chapter, we’ll study the brainchild of Morbus Iff (or Kevin Hemenway to the uncool): AmphetaDesk.
