VMware’s vision on this topic is that there is no objectively “true” definition, but instead we advocate conceiving of DevOps as a journey toward a state of cooperation and collaboration between the development and operations teams. Although there is no specific “tool” that defines it, a core component of DevOps, and also that of a true software-defined data center, is an extensible platform that augments the functionality of existing toolsets.
