Configuring Windows 2000 as a DHCP Relay Agent
Windows 2000 ships with a fully RFC1542-compliant DHCP Relay Agent. The DHCP Relay Agent is considered part of RRAS.
Enabling RRAS
To enable RRAS, perform the following steps:
Click Start → Programs → Administrative Tools → Routing and Remote Access.
In the Routing and Remote Access console, right-click on the computer that will run the DHCP Relay Agent. Select Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access.
If the computer is not listed, right-click on Routing and Remote Access and select Add Server to select another computer.
The Routing and Remote Access Server Setup wizard starts. Click Next.
On the Common Configurations screen, select Network router and click Next.
The Routed Protocols screen is displayed. This screen is used for selecting which protocols are to be routed by this computer. Verify that TCP/IP is selected. Select “Yes, all of the available protocols are on this list.” Click Next.
On the Demand-Dial Connections screen, select No and click Next.
Click Finish to close the Routing and Remote Access Server Setup wizard.
Adding the Windows 2000 DHCP Relay Agent
To add the Windows 2000 DHCP Relay Agent, perform the following steps:
Click Start → Programs → Administrative Tools → Routing and Remote Access.
In the Routing and Remote Access console, click the plus sign to expand the computer that will run the DHCP Relay Agent. Expand IP Routing, then right-click on General and select “New Routing Protocol” (see Figure 7.7).
