Chapter 3. THE COMPETING VALUES FRAMEWORK
The Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI)is based on the Competing Values Framework, a theoretical model that is now the dominant framework in the world for assessing organizational culture.[2] This framework is extremely useful in organizing and interpreting a wide variety of organizational phenomena. In this chapter, we explain why having a framework is so important and how this framework was initially developed through research on organizational effectiveness. We also explain the four dominant culture types that emerge from the framework, which serve as the foundation for the OCAI.[3]
