11 Partial differential equations

Up to now, the analytical and numerical methods were studied for ordinary differential equations. Ordinary differential equations are used to describe the relationship between unknown functions and their derivatives with respect to time. Ordinary differential equations are used in the dynamic modeling and simulation of lumped parameter systems.

Partial differential equations (PDEs) are different from ordinary differential equations. In partial differential equations, the derivatives of the unknowns with respect to time may be contained, and also the derivatives of the unknown with respect to spatial variables such as x, y, and z are involved.
