Chapter 14 Modelling IV: Asynchronous Network Model
In this chapter, we change the computing paradigm once again, this time switching from asynchronous shared memory systems to asynchronous networks. An asynchronous network consists of a collection of processes communicating by means of a communication subsystem. In the version of this model that is most frequently encountered, this communication is point-to-point, using send and receive actions. Other versions of the model allow broadcast actions, by which a process can send a message to all processes in the network (including itself), or multicast actions, by which a process can send a message to a subset of the processes.
