Chapter 4. Portal and Content Administration

Now that you've installed DotNetNuke (DNN) and configured the Host Settings for your website, you can start working on your site from an administrator's perspective. In this chapter, we will get into the daily administrative functionality that DNN provides, the ability to create pages and put modules on those pages.

Before getting into the daily administrative functionality, we will cover the basic settings for your portal. These settings are specific to each portal you create within your DNN instance. After we talk about the Site Settings, we will get into security roles, user management, page creation, and, finally, module implementation and settings.

This chapter discusses the following topics:

  • Site Settings

  • Roles and users

  • The permission model

  • How to create and manage pages

  • How to put modules on a page and configure their settings

Administrative Functionality

All the administrative functionality covered in this chapter will apply to a website's administrator, the Admin account created during the installation process. We will highlight a few things on the Site Settings page that are specific to the super user accounts, but in general the content administration and user management within your DNN portal will be handled, or delegated, by the administrator(s).
