The line of action is an expression of the
figure’s energy. It is a continuous, invisible S- or
C-shaped line that runs the length of the body. You
could think of it as the spinal column of the pose.
It is generally a continuous line running
from one end of the drawing to the other.
It describes the character’s movement
and makes the pose more interesting.
You can exaggerate the pose by
exaggerating the line of action. This will
accentuate the energy of the pose.
There is one main line of action for
the entirety of the body, but you can also
draw secondary action lines for each limb.
