Chapter 20 DW 2.0 and the system of record
The foundation for most of the data population of the DW 2.0 data warehouse environment is the operational or legacy application systems environment. Figure 20.1 represents this type of data source.
Written many years ago and undocumented in many cases, operational application systems are where data first enters the corporate environment. The data often enters into the Interactive Sector in the form of a by-product of the execution of a transaction.
The typical elements of the operational legacy environment are shown by Figure 20.2.
