So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Adding a Status Line with Metadata
In the last section, you finished the second version of your file viewing application. This version added the ability to scroll through a document a page at a time, and would allow you to exit the program at any time. In this section, we’re going to expand on our example program by including some additional information in a status bar. There are a lot of pieces of information that we could potentially add to a status bar, and you can choose to add some extra information if you’d like while you are working through this section, but we’ll focus our example on adding these:
- The name of the file
- The size of the file, in bytes
- The last time the file was modified
- The read, write, and execute permissions on the file
