10.1 THE SERIES RL CIRCUIT

The series RL circuit with all circuit variables identified as per the passive sign convention is shown in Fig. 10.1-1. Unit step voltage applied to the circuit is also shown in the same figure. The circuit contains three two-terminal elements. Each two-terminal element is associated with two variables – a voltage variable and a current variable. We use the passive sign convention, and in passive sign convention, the positive current enters the element at the positive of voltage variable assigned to the element.
