It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Amplifiers Using Bipolar Junction Transistors or FET
The most important application of a BJT (bipolar junction transistor), or a FET (field effect transistor) is to act as an amplifier. Each amplifier stage consists of an active device a BJT or a FET, D.C. source, A.C. source and associated circuit components.
