10.1 DEFINITION

Sometimes it becomes essential to know the depth of flow at a specific location of a channel. This can be done by following the flood-routing procedure.

When a river is in floods, the depth of the flow and the hydrograph at different locations along the river course are not the same, since the flow in the river is non-uniform and unsteady.
