▶ 12.4 Internet Firewalls
A firewall tries to reduce a site’s attack surface by limiting the kinds of network messages passing in or out. FIGURE 12.15 shows a typical gateway configuration for a small network. The firewall resides on a gateway device, which may include Wi-Fi wireless LAN support. Most gateways include a built-in hub or switch that provides downlinks to wired computers or other devices. The gateway’s uplink connects to the ISP.
