2 Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks and 5G Connected Industries
Mohsin Raza Sajjad Hussain Nauman Aslam Hoa Le‐Minh and Huan X. Nguyen
The fourth industrial revolution requires a high degree of automation, increased efficiency, system flexibility, improved reliability, optimized production, system safety, and security for effective optimized and greener industries. To ensure improved performance and to transform large industrial infrastructures into a single optimized unit, the communication interlink between large industrial blocks is of utmost importance. 5G offers flexible technology blocks to ensure desirable outcomes by implementing Ultra‐Reliable and Low‐Latency Communications (URLLC) within the industries to offer improved process control and automation. In this chapter, a detailed discussion of industrial revolutions, technology improvements, industrial processes and control requirements, and communication deadlines is provided. The chapter also discusses novel schemes to optimize communications within industrial processes to ensure desired time deadlines and reliability constraints. The chapter also summarizes the role of 5G technologies in ensuring the future of modern day industries.
2.1 Overview
