4A Project of Collaborative Networked Innovation
This chapter is in the from of a narrative, describing the possibilities offered by BIVEE in monitoring and contributing to innovation with ideas and expertise, in a networked context. This is an example of a typical innovation project, taking place in a realistic industrial scenario conducted through the BIVEE platform. The project deals with the development of a new sensor focused on a Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) system for real-time monitoring of the bridge pier for the scour risk during a flood. In particular, the innovation project starts with a specific request from Loccioni’s top management and the idea proposed in order to measure the scour risk. Then the key players are introduced, followed by a synthetic description of the scenario. Finally, the innovation waves are illustrated and suitably instantiated for the specific innovation project1.
4.1. Introduction
In an internal meeting, Loccioni’s top management asked the innovation team to study a monitoring system that is able to measure and control the level of safety of structures, in particular that of bridges. The need is to be able to give warning and make decisions on the security levels of a structure like a bridge based on different types of measurements. Actually, the decisions are made based on the subjective experience of technicians and this approach needs to be more robust and substantiated by data and objective measures. In particular, it is important to study ...
