Melitta Bentz invented the coffee filter in 1908 and set up a business to sell it. Now known as the Melitta Group, the company remains a leading coffee brand worldwide.

A German housewife, Amalie Auguste Melitta Bentz invented the first coffee filter in her kitchen in Dresden using a brass pot in which she had punched holes and a piece of blotting paper she had ripped out of her son Willy’s school notebook.
