Chapter 5

Manage storage and file services

The most common workload for Windows Server is as a file server. This is because ultimately most organizations create documents that need to be stored somewhere and often shared even if their primary business does not involve document creation. Windows Server provides a number of technologies that address the problems that occur related to the reliable storage and sharing of files. These include the humble file shares themselves, synchronization technologies to replicate file share contents across hybrid environments, and technologies that improve the performance and reliability of underlying storage technologies.
