Name

STDEV

Synopsis

Use STDEV to estimate the standard deviation by measuring how far the specified numeric values are dispersed from the mean. All text and logical values are ignored by this function.

To Calculate

=STDEV(Number1, Number2, ...)

There must be at least one Number argument specified.

Example

Figure 15-44 illustrates how to use STDEV to find the standard deviation of a list of numbers. You will notice that the list of values that are specified contains two logical values in cells A5 and A7. The function ignores these values because they are not numbers. To include logical values in the standard deviation, use the STDEVA function.

The example also shows how the STDEVP and STDEVPA functions are used to determine the standard deviation for the entire population.
