In addition to reading and writing files, the C++ standard library has functions for manipulating entire files, such as copying, renaming, and deleting files. It also has a portable way to work with file and directory names. Let’s take a look at what the file system library has to offer.

Everything in this Exploration is declared in <filesystem> and is in the std::filesystem namespace. Although I prefer to use fully qualified names, as I have done throughout the previous 60 Explorations, this name is just too long. For this and subsequent Explorations, assume the following namespace alias:
