The graph proper is a set of nodes together with a set of edges relating node pairs and giving rise to paths between any two nodes that are traversable by a sequence of connected edges. The edges may also have an associated directionality depending on whether the graph is directional or not. These elements together constitute the structure or framework of the graph. In a sense, they could be said to define the skeleton on which information elements are added and thus determine the information-bearing capacity.
