I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Back in April of 2009, I celebrated the publishing of my first book in the From Snapshots to Great Shots series and shared copies with many of my friends. Everyone was so supportive, but I always remembered what my friend Mike told me. He said that the book would work as a great photography-learning tool even if I took out all the camera-specific stuff. I always kept that in the back of my mind, with the thought being that one day I would take all the good stuff from the books I was writing and create something for all the folks out there who didn’t happen to own one of the cameras that I happened to be writing about. I knew that the real key to making great photographs had more to do with knowledge and less to do with the camera ...
