Chapter 6. Extending the Experience with Facebook Apps
Welcome to Facebook Applications. If you’re a smartphone user, especially an iPhone user, you understand the obsession over applications right now. Facebook boasts more than 45,000 applications and continues to grow at a rapid rate. Entire companies are formed around the development of Facebook applications. Companies such as Zynga (shown in Figure 6.1), a social gaming company who also produces games for other social networks such as MySpace, has received $219 million in funding and is now valued at, according to the New York Times, to be at least $1.5 billion and possibly as high as $3 billion.
