Chapter 10The Tech Connection

How Innovation and Technology Fuel a More Just Food System

I didn't set out to build a tech company. I set out to build a solution. In the beginning, when the idea of Goodr lived only in my head and a handful of scribbled notebooks, I thought I was designing a service—something operational, something physical, something that would put real food into real hands. But the more I followed the thread, the more I realized that every meaningful, scalable solution in our world had something in common: technology.

That realization didn't come from a workshop or a consulting report or an accelerator. It came from observation—watching the world around me adopt digital tools to solve problems that had once seemed impossible. Uber reshaped the way we thought about transportation. Airbnb redefined hospitality. Amazon Prime made waiting feel obsolete. Technology rewrote the rules of trust, access, convenience, and speed. And as I watched the world shift, I couldn't stop thinking about the disconnect: If technology could transform entire industries, why couldn't it transform hunger? If it could reimagine dating, travel, banking, communication—why not food recovery? Why not waste reduction? Why not dignity?
