This book grew out of decades of doing the work, backstage, on-site, in production meetings, and in those moments when the plan changes and everyone has to figure it out together.

To our past employees, interns, volunteers, students, colleagues, mentors, industry experts, and interviewees, thank you. So much of what we know was learned alongside you. You showed up early, stayed late, asked questions, solved problems, calmed chaos, carried signs, moved tables, supported guests, managed radios, and did the unglamorous work that makes events happen.
