1. WALKING THROUGH THE EXCEL MODEL PROVIDED WITH THE BOOK (STEELCO SA 4YR BUSINESS PLAN)

Introduction

Through the various chapters of this book we have developed a financial model that comprises the 9 worksheets of Exhibit A1. The model is called “SteelCo SA 4yr Business Plan” and can be downloaded from the website accompanying the book. The model contains each of the worksheets presented as exhibits in the course of the book. It is a macro-enabled Microsoft Office Excel worksheet with the extension (.xlsm) that provides added security. A macroenabled Microsoft Excel worksheet is used in Excel 2007 and later versions when we work with macros. When we create a macro, such as the one we created in Chapter 8 that runs a Monte Carlo simulation, we must use this format to save our workbook or the macro will not be saved. Make sure that the macro security level in Excel is set either to Disable all macros with notification or Enable all macros. By default, Excel protects us from running macros, but in this case, where we created our own macro, we will have to change the protective security settings (on the Developer tab, click the Macro Security button in the Code group; the Trust Center dialog box will appear with the Macro Settings tab selected. Set the security level either to Disable all macros with notification where you will see displayed a security alert when a workbook opens or to Enable all macros where the macro will run without a notification.
