I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Appendix
Energy Sector Resources
The resources available for analyzing the Energy sector are numerous. Statistics on oil and natural gas supply and demand are widely available, the vast majority of which are free. This appendix lists a variety of publications and websites providing nearly all the data you need for comprehensive sector analysis.
Two widely used sources for worldwide oil industry statistics are the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Both organizations provide free, detailed statistics for all things Energy, including comprehensive reports with analyses and forecasts. The EIA is the statistical arm of the US Department of Energy, and thus provides the most up-to-date information available pertaining to the US Energy sector. The EIA publishes weekly inventory data for both oil and natural gas and monthly data on demand. Both organizations provide detailed statistics for the oil markets, but the EIA is generally more helpful when analyzing the US natural gas market and US refining and marketing sub-industry.
For the Energy Equipment & Services industry, data is less widely available for free but can be obtained through subscription services like those offered by ODS-Petrodata Group or Rig Zone. Baker Hughes Inc. and Smith International provide free data on rig counts.
