Examples of odd-toed ungulates are horses, tapirs, and rhinoceroses. They are browsing and grazing mammals. The middle toe on each hoof is also usually larger than its neighbors.
Larger ungulates typically have tendon-lock systems that allow them to lock their legs to be able to save energy. This locking mechanism affects how we think about the functional FORCES of the front legs, as I will cover in more depth in the following pages.
