In today’s highly competitive and rapidly changing marketplace, the management teams of early-stage, growing, and established franchisors must be clear on their (1) overall strategic plan, (2) current business plan, and (3) the efficacy of their business model. (See Figure 12-1.) All three documents must be updated from time to time to reflect the company’s medium- to long-range growth and development plans, but each plays a difficult role in articulating the course that the company will follow and the resources that it will require along the way.
