Chapter 29. Project Management

There’s more to your dev career than doing all the technical work. You’ll have to do some form of project management. This is how you start taking more ownership for what gets shipped to production for users. Now is when you start really asking questions about features and the roadmap and work closer with the Product team. Get comfortable asking about the validity of a feature and push back when new functionality will change or break something already in place.

As the project matures, Product is going to want to collaborate with you and get your opinions on how features should work and what that looks like from a technical perspective as they expand the roadmap. You’ll be expected to chime in with things they haven’t considered, such as how designs might take longer to implement than it seems or the difference between frontend and backend work. You’re going to be an expert on how the app works and how changes might affect it, so you have to become comfortable communicating that openly and honestly.

In this chapter, I’ll go over:

• Approaching sprint discussions

• Defining and managing tasks to keep the team at a steady pace

• Handling communication with Product
