Consider this question, Does how you feel affect your performance? Yes? No? What do you think?
Pause . . . What’s your answer?
In every room in which I have asked this question, every hand went up. People world wide believe that how they feel affects their performance.
Next, consider, How many times in your career has your boss asked you how you wanted to feel? What’s the number for you?
In my seminars, people begin laughing. Laughing because the answer, 99 percent of the time, is zero. This was an absurd question.
If you believe that how one feels affects their performance, why wouldn’t you, as a manager, want to know how people (a) are feeling and (b) want to feel?
