Executives frequently do things unintentionally that undermine the development of their own bench strength. Then they ask people like me to come present leadership development seminars. I frequently note that we could do that, however, it would be a lot less expensive, more powerful and more long-lasting if they would simply change the way they deal with their subordinates. “What do you mean?” they say.
