Given the four broad phases in team development introduced in the last chapter, we can turn to the activities necessary in each phase.
The key issues in the forming phase are purpose, membership, and leadership. The first potential confusion is why the group is brought together. I have heard team leaders say, “Okay, you all know why we’re here, let’s get down to it.” Frequently, no, we don’t know why we are here and unless we sort that out there are to be many different expectations in the room.
