Machining Process Selection
20.1 INTRODUCTION
Machining covers a wide range of aspects that should be studied for proper understanding and selection of a given process. The main objective is to utilize the selected process to machine the component economically and at a high rate of production. Parts should also be machined at levels of accuracy, surface texture, and surface integrity that satisfy the product designer and avoid the need for post-machining and maintain acceptable machining costs. Selecting a machining process is related to many factors that are shown in Figure 20.1.
