About the Author

Jim Lehmer has spent a career of more than four decades doing two things: systems integration and data integration. This book is the result of some of the experience he’s picked up over the years trying to work with “heterogeneous datasets” and get some meaningful results out of their intersection.

His extensive experience with SQL started in the late 1980s with DB2 v1.2 on MVS (now z/OS), moving then to Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server in the early and mid-1990s. Jim worked on database connectivity and “middleware” products for various software vendors before moving over to “industry” as a software architect and consultant. He also wrote a book called Ten Steps to Linux Survival: Bash for Windows People, which was then condensed and published as a small ebook by O’Reilly.

Jim on East Spanish Peak

Jim currently lives in the mountains of northern New Mexico with his wife Leslie. When not consulting or writing, he is usually out playing somewhere in the Rocky Mountains there or over the border in Colorado—hiking, climbing, backpacking, snowshoeing, and other things much more fun than dealing with data!
