In this lesson, you learn how to chat with other Gmail users in text and video Hangouts.
Participating in a Text Hangout
Google offers both text and video chatting services, both of which can be accessed from within Gmail, using your Gmail contacts. All of these chats are collectively called Hangouts by Google; when you start a chat, you enter a Hangout.
To conduct a text chat, both you and the other party must be online, and then you can use Gmail to initiate the chat. Follow these steps:
1. Display your Gmail contacts list by clicking the down arrow next to Gmail and selecting Contacts.
