Swapping Components in Your Model

It's easy to swap one component for another in your model. Or if you prefer, you can replace every instance of a component with a different component. In this example, you replace one of your window components with a window from the 3D Warehouse. The first step is to find a likely candidate that's roughly the same size as your 4 x 3-foot window.

  1. In the Components window (Window → Components), choose the Select tab and then in the Search box, type double hung window 35 x 58.

    SketchUp hunts around the 3D Warehouse and presents any candidates that meet your description (Figure 9-29).

    Type some keywords in the Search box, and SketchUp shows you matching components. In this figure you see double-hung windows that meet the 35 x 58 dimensions.

  2. Click a window and then press Esc.

    When you click a window, it's downloaded and then added to your In Model collection. The window is automatically attached to your cursor. Pressing Esc removes the window from your cursor, but it still appears in the Components window's In Model view.

  3. With the Selection tool, click one of the windows in your model.

    A selection box appears around the selected window.

  4. In the Components window, click the In Model button.

    SketchUp shows all the components in your model, including the newly added window from the 3D Warehouse.
