The Information Healthcare Continuum (I-HCC)

I-HCC Definition

The third level of analysis is based on the information healthcare continuum (I-HCC), as noted in Exhibit 3.3. I-HCC analysis identifies the operational issues within the entities within the P-HCC and the users and uses of the S-HCC. Exhibit 3.3 illustrates the important elements to identify within a provider’s current operating practices and procedures and also how they interact with other parties within the healthcare marketplace. It is also necessary to identify electronic interoperability drivers, such as compatible Internet, intranet, and extranet systems, and electronic interoperability impediments, such as incompatible and/or detached electronic and paper systems.

  • Electronics, computers, components, and their respective attributes
  • Service industries that are involved internally and externally
  • All networking software/languages and storage attributes
  • Data input and output mechanisms via internal and external partners
  • Level of electronic interoperability with both internal and external partners
  • Identify technology issues that are segmented, fragmented, and/or insulated
